1. Information We Do Not Collect
Coretan does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. We do not have user accounts, login systems, analytics trackers, or advertising networks. Your identity and browsing activity are never accessed or shared with third parties.
2. How Annotations Are Handled
All drawings and annotations (pencil strokes, shapes, text, etc.) you create are stored only in your browser's memory during the active session. This data is never transmitted anywhere. When you close the tab or stop Coretan, all annotation data is discarded. Nothing is saved to our servers.
3. Local Storage Usage
Coretan stores only one preference locally on your device: your toolbar position (crt-toolbar-pos). This is saved via the browser's LocalStorage so the toolbar stays where you placed it across page loads. No annotation content or personal data is stored in LocalStorage. You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
4. Screenshot & Export Feature
When you click the Export button, Coretan uses the browser's captureVisibleTab API to take a screenshot of the current visible tab. This screenshot is processed entirely on your device — it is combined with your annotations locally and immediately downloaded as a PNG file to your computer. The screenshot is never sent to any server or third party.
5. Browser Permissions Explained
Coretan requests the following permissions:
- activeTab & host_permissions — required to inject the annotation canvas overlay onto any webpage you choose to annotate.
- tabs — required solely to take a local screenshot for the Export feature.
- scripting — required to run the annotation tool on the page.
None of these permissions are used to read, collect, or transmit your browsing data.
6. No Third-Party Services, Analytics, or Ads
Coretan does not integrate with any third-party services of any kind. There are no analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel), no advertising networks, no crash reporting services, and no data brokers. No external scripts are loaded. The extension operates entirely offline and locally within your browser — making it completely safe to use on any website, including sensitive or private pages.
7. Children's Privacy
Coretan is a general-purpose annotation tool suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at https://apps.awandigitals.com/coretan/privacy-policy with an updated effective date.
